Missions
Missions
Overland Park Church of the Nazarene is actively involved in the support of local and worldwide mission efforts. This support takes the form of sharing both financial resources as well as hands on support. See the information below to learn more about missions opportunities.
Faith Promise
Faith Promise is a year-long emphasis on support of global missions. Faith Promise Weekend in the early fall focuses on responding to the opportunities involved in missions involvement, both local and global. Faith Promise is...
· a voluntary promise that I will give to God a specific amount, in addition to my regular tithe, for world evangelism to help fulfill the Great Commission.
· a covenant made between God and me based on my faith in God's ability to supply out of His resources what I cannot give out of my own.
· listening to God, promising to give as He enables me, and trusting Him to provide.
Our local church has five missionaries, including four children, who are among the more than 700 missionaries from more than 50 countries serving under the auspices of the Church of the Nazarene.
For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability...And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will. (2 Corinthians 8:3, 5)
The church schedules the Faith Promise weekend each year with special missionary speakers who bring news and updates from various mission fields around the world. At the concluding service, Faith Promise Commitments are received from the congregation. To keep us informed throughout the year various missionary speakers are scheduled as they are available.
Work & Witness
Work & Witness is one of the greatest movements in the history of the Church of the Nazarene. It is a ministry that began with a group of concerned laypersons who wanted to meet the needs that they saw around them. As global access became more accessible, so did the opportunity to experience missions firsthand through personal involvement.
Work & Witness connects local teams with global needs. Help with construction, medical, technical, and evangelistic needs may be offered by teams of 2 or more people. The team’s willingness to be available for up to 21 days and to pay all of their expenses is a key dynamic of the Work and Witness ministry. This self-funded movement has given Nazarene missions a huge boost into the 21st century.
