One of the most exciting weeks of the church year is upon us. What week is it you ask? It's Mission to the World week. This Sunday we are blessed to welcome Steve and Brenda Heap, career missionaries to the beautiful country of Brazil. The Heaps will be with us both Saturday and Sunday. Steve will share with the men and boys of our church during Saturday morning breakfast, which begins at 9:00 a.m. in the Activity Center. Steve and Brenda will be speaking in Sunday School and the morning service on Sunday, October 5th. They will be celebrating the victories of their 30+ years of ministry in Brazil.
What does this Mission to the World Sunday mean in the life of our church? The emphasis Sunday and throughout the month of October will be centered in our call to go into the world in the name of God. We will be challenged to pray and give our lives for the work of God's kingdom. We will also be challenged to give of our means to God's mission in the world.
Our Goal is $50,000 pledged over the next year to assist us in fulfilling God's mission in a variety of ways. The World Evangelism Fund (WEF) provides the necessary support to keep missionaries and missionary efforts going in 159 world areas. The Pensions and Benefits Fund assists us in providing for a retirement stipend for retired pastors and missionaries. The MidAmerica Nazarene University Fund enables our church to partner with our regional university in providing scholarships and quality Christian education to our youth. The District Fund gives us the opportunity to coordinate with the other 90 churches on the Kansas City District in shared ministry, including the planting of new churches. Lastly, our goal will include $5,000 for our Nicaragua partnership.
Our family have been praying about what our pledge will be. Will you join us in making a generous pledge to God's mission?
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Phil Hamner
