Programs for Children
Overland Park Church of the Nazarene
(Click a link above for more information) Our desire at Overland Park Church of the Nazarene, is to help you communicate to your children God’s great love for them, to impress upon them a reverence and knowledge of God, and to understand that he has a plan and purpose for each of their lives. We do this intentionally and with great diligence. Our staff of children’s workers is ready to welcome and love your child from the moment they enter our church doors. Beginning early as the day you bring your infant to our nursery, and on into the kindergarten, primary, and middler years, we are here to offer God’s grace to you and your family.
Programs that we offer to you and your child are the following:
Nursery and Child Care (Infant through Four Years) – Caregivers offer a loving and secure environment for your child during all regular and special services and programs of the church.
Children’s Sunday School Classes (Two Years through Sixth Grade) –
Classes catering to children age two through sixth grade teach youngsters about the Bible and its life lessons. Parents are encouraged to meet our dedicated teachers and look over our class curriculum. Classes meet at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays.
Preschool-K Church (Three Years through Kindergarten) – Following Sunday School, during the 10:45 a.m. worship service, children ages three through Kindergarten are provided with additional Bible Story lessons, crafts, music, and snacks in the Preschool. Class meets in Sunday School Classroom #102.
Children’s Church (First through Sixth Grade) - To foster training in corporate worship, first through sixth graders, with provided adult supervision, are invited to sit together in the sanctuary for the first part of the morning worship service. After a moment, focusing on the children, they will be escorted to the Children’s Worship Center, Room 103, where they will continue in worship through a Bible lesson and music. Missions are also emphasized during this hour.
Children’s Church Monthly Schedule (First through Sixth Grade) - - First Sunday of the month - Communion Sunday, families are encouraged to sit together for morning worship. No Children's Church provided during this service.
- Second Sunday of the month - Regular Children's Church
- Third Sunday of the month - Regular Children’s Church (focus on Missions)
- Fourth (or Fifth) Sunday of the month - Regular Children’s Church
Children’s Elementary and Preschool-K Choirs - Music is a vital part of our praise and worship to God, and we offer this training for your children through our Children’s Choirs. Practices for musicals and other special services are held during the Children’s Church Hour and other planned rehearsals throughout the year.
Missions Education -The third Sunday of every month is devoted to Missions during the Children’s Church Hour. Your child will be given the opportunity to learn about Missionaries, their families, and many different cultures of the world.
Wednesday Night Activities (Three Years through Sixth Grade) - Lots of things are happening on Wednesday Nights, and you will want your child to be a part of our midweek program based on a VBS format. CommUNITY Life for all ages begins at 6:00 p.m. with dinner, followed by a time of intergenerational worship, music, testimony. At 7:00 p.m. the adults, youth, and children break into their various ministries. Children meet in the Children's Worship Center (Room 103) for a time of music, followed by a bible lesson, recreation, crafts, and snacks.
Family Fun Nights - Once a quarter we plan a special night out with food, fun and fellowship along with a movie for the whole family to enjoy.
Vacation Bible School (Three Years through Sixth Grade) -This week-long event uses the summer evenings to present children with a wonderful understanding of the Gospel. Bible stories, missions, music, recreation, crafts, and snacks are included each night beginning at 6:30 p.m. A closing program and carnival top off the end of this exciting week.
Children’s District Bible Quizzing (First thru Sixth Grade) - Healthy competition, great fun and a better knowledge of the Bible are the goals of this program in which elementary children participate in competitions with other churches regarding Bible study and scripture memory.
Children’s District Summer Camp (Ages 7-12) – Summertime and the living is easy! This district function is held in July at a central Kansas campground and provides a weeklong camping experience where children from area churches get a chance to meet, socialize and hear the Gospel.
Children’s District Talent (Kindergarten through Sixth Grade) - Each year during the month of April, this district function gives children the opportunity to share their talents through music, drama, creative writing, art and movement.
